EBRI objectives

Mission and objectives

EBRI’s mission is to contribute, through its research, to the understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying higher brain functions such as learning, memory, emotions and social behavior. This research area is fundamental for the development of new therapies for neurodegenerative and neurological diseases which today remain incurable.

The researchers at EBRI have generated an innovative pipeline of new molecules of therapeutic interest. EBRI aims to bring these molecules into the human clinical trial phase.

Another priority at EBRI is to study the various mechanisms underlying rare diseases that affect the development and function of the nervous system.

Our laboratories and facilities are dedicated to pursuing these objectives.

EBRI also offers training to young researcher in a stimulating international environment to attract foreign scientists to Italy, as well as offer Italian neuroscientist working in foreign institutes the opportunity to return to their home country. EBRI has welcomed numerous foreign students as part of the ERASMUS exchange program.

Outreach activities aimed at disseminating to the public scientific knowledge in the neurosciences is also a special focus area at EBRI.

Researchers at EBRI aim to:

Provide a series of innovative clinical candidate molecule for testing in humans, for the treatment of various neurodegenerative and neurological diseases.

Develop novel gene therapy approaches for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Clinically validate new biomarkers for the stratification of patients with neurological and neurodegenerative diseases, to deliver precision medicine.

Modulate neural stem cells and adult neurogenesis for the treatment of neurological diseases.

Use neural stem cells to treat neurological diseases
